As a hobby astronomer of course I observed the mercury transit on 9th May, 2016. I was watching the small planet mercury (about 1/3 the size of our earth) while it was passing in front of our home star, the sun. I was observing with an Orion ED80 refractor, with a solar filter and took some pictures with my phone through the ocular. Additionally, I was taking pictures with my Canon 100D SLR and a 250mm lens.
The small, black circle in the lower 3rd of the picture is mercury – yes, it really is that small. 🙂
The other spots on the picture are „sunspots“, which are about the size of or earth or larger.
